Extra knowledge:
Devil’s Claw
The devil’s claw originates from Africa and has claw-like fruit from which the plant gets its name. It is, however, not the fruit which is used but rather the storage roots.
Devil’s claw is a medicinal plant which is reputed to have a very anti-inflammatory as well as a decongestant and mildly pain-soothing effect. It is therefore used to treat
arthrosis and other joint pains.
Cryotherapy
Although the origins of cryotherapy, more commonly known as cold therapy, date back as far as antiquity, it still remains valid as an effective pain treatment today. Pain
stimuli are perceived by so-called receptors which can record and forward them. Nerve fibers connect these receptors with the spinal cord. In the spinal cord all nerve fibers
of the body merge together like bundles of cable leading to the brain. Here all impulses are evaluated and appropriate messages are relayed back to the muscles and glands of
the body. The aim of the treatment is to soothe pain by means of measures which have minimal side effects but nevertheless strive for pain-free status and prevention of the
pain becoming chronic. Pain is perceived subjectively and can have numerous causes.
Cold can alleviate acute and chronic pain. Application of localised cold treatment can also have an additional anti-inflammatory, relaxing and performance-enhancing effect.
Coldness quickly shows its effects on the skin surface. The consequence is accelerated heat dissipation. Coldness blocks the pain pathways, reduces progress of pain through
the body and thus impedes the pain perception.
